We welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding to improve provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource to develop high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our children.
A wide range of PE is delivered to our pupils, which aims to engage and inspire the children. This is taught by external providers and by our teaching staff, using a range of established and innovative curriculum resources.
We work with a range of partners to further enhance our PE curriculum with trained coaches e.g. from Plymouth Argyle, Arena, Go Active! and Cornwall Cricket Club who provide ongoing CPD for our staff as well as expert tuition and coaching. We also like to try out lots of ‘Alternative Sports’ such as boules and tri golf.
Our extra-curricular programme is extensive and includes many after school clubs. The majority of our after school clubs are run by our committed teaching staff and dedicated parents, and are free of charge.
We offer a range of clubs throughout the year which have, in the past, included: football, netball, hockey, tag rugby, cross country, rounders, dance, athletics, cheerleading, performing arts and orienteering. Clubs are often reflective of the sporting season!
We also provide after school sports clubs to our KS1 pupils, to develop a love of sport, e.g. multi skills and athletics.
As pupils move up through the school we offer them the opportunity to become PE leaders and run their own after school activities for younger children.
We also encourage the children in KS2 to hold sporting festivals to teach children in KS1 new skills.
Please see information below on how we spend our sports premium funding.
Children are expected to have a PE Kit in school at all times. Their PE Kit should consist of:
• a plain white t-shirt or Antony polo shirt
• blue/black shorts
• blue/black jogging bottoms or leggings
• blue/black jumper or hoodie
• trainers
At Antony we are members of the ARENA sports network and take part in a number of local competitions. We hold a whole school sports day with fielding and track events which parents are invited to attend. We also hold additional festivals throughout the year including the annual Antony Beach Day. We aim to keep you updated with all our sporting news via our Facebook page and our school newsletter.
